Sweet Bohemian Luxe Wedding

This past STORMY weekend I went to the most precious wedding. The sweet couple had big dreams of getting married by the lake here in Dallas, but unfortunately the rain did not let that happen. They didn’t let that damper their day. The two made their vows indoors with all their family and friends by their side… its so nice to see love. Stumbling around today, I found this “wedding” photo montage that stole my heart. How cute are they?

They met in college as friends. Amanda tried to strategically choose her seat according to where Nate sat and hoped they’d strike up long, meaningful, and deep conversations in a casual way so it didn’t look like she was trying as hard as she was. But Nate was oblivious to her seat picking and simply saw Amanda as the sweet girl who made him smile.

The semester ended and though they were both English majors, Nate and Amanda didn’t see each other much until she crossed his mind a couple months later. Again and again. Nate took a chance and sent her a message through Facebook and what he didn’t see at the time was Amanda’s reaction to his message. OH MY GOODNESS THE CUTE GUY FROM MY ENGLISH CLASS MAY OR MAY NOT BE HITTING ON ME!!!

That was the start of their whirlwind college romance which later led to a wedding and starting a life together. Much has changed since their English class days (they got a cute house, started a photography business, and adopted an adorable dog), but they decided to revive wedding memories for the sake of photos.

I love the idea of doing “wedding” photos after the wedding.. especially if you had a not so pretty wedding day! Day After sessions are perfect if you didn’t get enough portraits on your wedding day, or maybe you weren’t happy with you wedding photos. This is a great chance to put back on your wedding attire and get some great photos of the two of you – and have some fun with it! I love that Amanda and Nate were inspiring by their child like love of camping. Gorgeous photos by Jasmine Star, styling and a pretty bouquet by Jesi Haack and makeup by Melina Ruiz.

And love this great marriage advice from the newlyweds…

“Take time to be present together. As a couple that works from home together, this is especially important for us to remember. We can’t just say we’re going to have a date night and then proceed to sit on the couch working from our laptops as a movie plays…we need to completely set things aside and be totally present with one another. I think it’s good to frequently ask each other how you are doing. It’s a simple question, but sometimes when you ask you find out that you had no clue your partner was even feeling a certain way. As cheesy as it sounds, make time to snuggle. 5 minutes of daily snuggling should be mandatory! 😉 Don’t stop being silly with one another…ever. Laughter is so important. And lastly, always remember how lucky you are that you got to marry your best friend. (These last 2 sentences are Nate’s contribution. He’s a man of few words…but a few heart-melting words).”

Bohemian love for Macrame Art

Macrame.. what a blast from the past. I am not quite sure if it is my imagination or if it is true.. is macrame back? I have been stumbling upon new textile designers that have come out with chic new spins on macrame. Growing up in the 80’s I remember the old plant hangers and of course.. who could forget the notorious owl macrame art piece!? These days they seem to be much brighter and a great addition to your boho glam home. I have been gathering some of my favorites over these past couple of months.. Here are just a few.

I am crushing hard on Macrame by All Roads

The craft of knotting geometric patterns without using hooks, needles, or hoops is the art recognized as macrame. 

The skill of macramé dates back to the thirteenth century. The word macramé is Arabic in origin meaning “fringe”. It’s thought that Arabian weavers began the skill by knotting the additional material at the edges of loamed material. From these origins it eventually made it to Italy and France in the early fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Sailors commenced with the skill as it was a favored way to pass some of the long hours out at sea. The basic knots that the sailors utilized are the basic knots of macramé today…the half knot, square knot, and the half-hitch knot. The sailors passed on their craft to the Chinese who adapted the skill to their own particular civilization and culture. The skill became fashionable with the British during the nineteenth century. As time passed the skill fell to neglect. It was revived in the 1960s and ’70s, which brought revitalization to the ancient skill. Its popularity waned some in the ’80s and ’90s, but the beginning of the 21st century has seen the return of its popularity into full swing, with an unlimited number of creative possibilities for the hobbyist, artist, and appreciator of the many diverse macramé products.
Materials range from various thickness of jute and hemp, to twine, colored nylon and polyester fibers. Not only do you have wooden beads in projects, but glass and ceramic beads are also being incorporated into projects these days as well.

Bringing the Gypset Travel Finds Home

Gypset travel souvenirs are the secret ingredient to the bohemian home. They bring the intrigue and depth that all spaces crave.

Every detail in my home tells has story. A story of what I have seen, colors that I love and places I have traveled. The interaction between antiques, thrift store finds and souvenirs is my bohemian design. Although many people do not enjoy thrifting and antiquing they do enjoy vacations. What you bring home from your vacations or travels can highlight the culture you love and offer cherished memories of the times had. The question is HOW to choose the right souvenirs and HOW to display them.

If you are a frequent traveler start to collect similar objects from different places and group them together. These could be maps, coins, menus, plates, books, masks or anything that interests you. If you are someone that frequents beaches start collecting seashells and put them in a large bowl on display. Even if you are someone who travels to the next town you could collect wine corks of where you have been and good times you have shared.

I don’t get to travel as much as I would like to. If money wasn’t an issue I would be gypsettin’ all over the world. When I do get out I make it a point to find one incredible piece of artwork. I incorporate these pieces into my other works giving the art a more global look.  

When I was traveling in Tokyo I found this wonderful antique teapot that I fell in love with!! I carefully packed it into my carry-on luggage only to find it cracked down the center when I got off my 19 hour flight. That was when I personally swore off breakable souvenirs. But sometimes you find a piece that you must have.   

Textiles and Tapestries are a wonderful find and are my

#1 suggestion for gypsetters.

They are lightweight and easy to pack. They also can be implemented into your home in several ways.  You could make them into pillows, reupholster a ottoman, display as framed, unframed art or even drape them over a sofa or bed.

Sometimes (for me most times) you fall in love with a piece that you cannot live without. If you have the means and the funds to purchase and bring it home.. GO for it!! If you love it don’t worry about it fitting in with your previous style. Style evolves just like a person does after traveling.

Gypsetter: Its an alternative way of traveling. Take that jet set mentality, mix in the carefree mindset of a gypsy and you are ready to explore the world. Instead of a luxury hotel in Bahamas or St. Bart’s, you might find a Gypsetter in Montauk, Cornwall, or in a teepee in Ibiza.

Happy Easter

Easter is here! I’m so excited I needed to share some of my favorite finds 🙂 Hope you all enjoy your long weekend.

Spring is just around the corner! For me that does not mean spring cleaning or starting the “bikini diet.” It means bringing out the spring décor. As exciting as that is, there is one winter decorating piece that I must hold on to. The fur! One of my favorite trends this year has been decorating with faux fur. LOVE it!! The soft look that a fur (faux of course) can bring to a room takes it from a living room into a luxurious snuggling room.

The look of furs thrown onto the sofa and bed may be meant for a winter look but there are ways we can keep it around.

Using your furs as rugs

Throws on beds

Notes: Used light colored furs or pair with light colors.

Using furs as accent pillows works well for a spring time look.

Small furs on side chairs

I love a small fur thrown on a side chair but I suggest using a white fur for a fresher look.

If you can’t find a way to use fur in your spring decor take it outside! Your patio will never feel so luxurious.

Light up my life with Bohemian lighting

Bohemian Lighting Love:

As I am still trying to transform my new house into a home I find myself trying to find new ways to introduce a little bohemian life and color into rooms where the landlord has forbidden me from painting the walls. (#miss.mylast.landlord.mysweetmomma) However, he hasn’t yet forbidden the changing of light fixtures …. and I dare not ask permission. I will have to choose an amazing piece and ask for forgiveness later. As I look for ideas and inspiration I am overwhelmed by the beauty that bohemian lighting brings to a room!

There is something about bohemian lighting that adds such warmth to a room.

Choosing the right light fixture can visually and emotionally warm your spirit. With the winter months almost to an end the absence of sunlight can contribute to bouts of depression. What some call the blues can sometimes be diagnosed as the extreme version called Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). So if you are feeling blue and need some life in your space think about a new light fixture. 

I think everyone needs at least one piece of this room in their lives; an Eames lounger, disco balls, a cross light, concrete floors, or a beautiful brunette. 

The idea of wrapping fabric over an existing light fixture has really sparked some ideas for my home. 

Love these beautiful bohemian lanterns. They seem to make every space more special.

I'm dreaming of a Colorful Christmas

There is something comforting about the traditional red, greens and golds in Christmas decor. But when you decorate Christmas trees as a seasonal job a girl can get pretty sick of the traditional colors. Hence…Im now dreaming of a bright and bold colorful Christmas.

This is what I call cheery.

Santa will be in for a treat when he stops by this tree. I love the take on adding fringe and ribbon instead of the traditional ornaments and tinsel.

A simple guide for the Thanksgiving bohemian table setting

It is here!! Thanksgiving is just a couple of days away and I have already started stretching my appetite.  I do not cook so I spend my time tending the tablescape and centerpieces. This year I have been drawing inspiration from the bohemian design theory; adding color, texture, vintage pieces, lighting, and a splash of the unexpected.

If you are wanting to bring that bohemian flavor into your Thanksgiving feast there are 5 simple ideas that you can easily implement into your table setting.

1. Texture: Using moss as a table runner. If you do not have access to moss you can substitute a layer of fall leaves or a slab of wood, just make sure you have wiped them clean of any debris or bugs.

2. Color and Pattern; bring in bright colors with flowers and a splash of pattern with your place setting.

3. Mixing in vintage pieces; mix and match china or colorful glass ware. Feeling wild and free? Have a wild flower centerpiece or dine outside !!!

 4. Romantic lights; if you can’t install a fixture try adding lighting with a lantern or candles to your table.

5. Add some unexpected flair with something special to the table.  Feathers, slabs of wood, a terrarium, birdcages, knick-knacks or succulents add texture and more importantly visual interest.

The Great White Pumpkin

The Great White Pumpkins

The classic orange pumpkin is a timeless pick for your fall decor. But this Thanksgiving you may find yourself wanting to change up the traditional tablescape and decor. White pumpkins, once a novelty, are becoming increasingly common, and these intriguing white orbs are all the rage when it comes to chic autumn decorating. One way to use a larger white pumpkin is to use it as a vase. Fill your white pumpkin with bright blossoms and foliage. 

If your local nursery doesn’t have the larger white pumpkin you can group smaller ones together to make a strong statement. If you find yourself not finding any white pumpkins, you can paint your orange pumkin with flat white latex paint.

 These albinos with natural white skin have been bred by pumpkin growers, and seeds for specific varieties, such as Lumina, Cotton Candy or miniature Baby Boo, can be purchased and planted. White pumpkins must be planted after the risk of frost has passed, and they take about 90 days to grow.

Love these white pumkins! And since I DO NOT cook.. I will need to make a beautiful tablescape for the family Thanksgiving so I am not arriving empty handed. Also Known As: albino pumpkin, ghost pumpkin, Snowball, Casper, Lumina, Baby Boo, Cotton Candy Pumpkin
