Bohemian Style Crop Tops Trending

I am usually the last to pick up on the trending styles, but I can’t help but notice crop tops everywhere! This 80’s throwback is going to make me start passing up the Toll House chocolate cookies and start doing some crunches.

Bohemian Treehouse crop top

Also known as a “belly shirt” or a “cutoff shirt,” a crop top is a top which falls just above or around the navel, exposing the midriff section. Crop tops have gone in and out of fashion since the 1980s, and have also become a symbol of sexuality.

During the mid-1980s, pop star Madonna caused a controversy when she gyrated in a mesh crop top in her video for the song “Lucky Star.” Also during this decade, cutoff crop tops became a popular fashion item thanks to the aerobic craze and popularity of the movie Flash Dance. It became common for girls to crop off sections of their workout wear, such as sleeves, collars, and the hem of the shirt to create a loose-fitting top which was often worn over a body suit or tank top. Crop tops were also often paired with low-slung belts in the 1980s, angled at the side of the hip.

Spring is here! Welcome warm weather and brighter colors!! I am so excited to add a new fresh outfit to my wardrobe.

These lace dresses have inspired me to find a great lace look that I can wear to client meetings.

After diving into Spiegel’s online catalog I think I may have some winners that will be perfect for new client meetings.

My #1 absolute favorite choice is the jumpsuit! The delicate lace is feminine and fashionable.

I also love this season’s prettiest skirt. It combines black lace and mesh in a chic midi length.

Mixing patterns is one of my favorite trends this year. This dress makes it brainless.. what a great statement piece.

black dress

This would surely dazzle a client or even a date.

Spiegel first introduced women’s fashion in 1912 and has been emerging with romantic and unique fashion lines ever since. They took us from the Great Depression, through the Women’s Rights Movement to the colorful working woman bohemian era.

Spiegel has always known how to dress a woman for business and for pleasure… speaking of pleasure….After the hard business workweek I will be catching some rays in the sun this summer.

Being an interior designer can be a stressful job.. sometimes I find myself diving deep into the Reese’s or my favorite crackers.. I will be needing a full coverage bathing suit this year and I LOVE Spiegel’s one pieces and tankinis!!

Boho Style at Planet Blue

Sometimes while sitting at work, I like to pretend I’m making tons of money and then start to stumble around the internet looking for cute clothes to order. This morning as I’m freezing in my office I start to think I need a cape!! This crazy notion took me to a site called Planet Blue.

As I look at all their fabulous clothes I am quickly reminded that I don’t make bookoos of money. But aren’t these clothes adorable???!!

True to the spirit of sunny Southern California, where surf and stars blend in casual harmony, Planet blue has emerged as an authentic alternative to the fast-paced retail world of mass malls and faceless crowds.

Love them!! Maybe someday when I am making lots of money I can go back to this site and buy some clothes..

Check them out at Planet Blue

Bohemian Fall Fashion Awaits Us

Bohemian Fall Fashion

While it is still 95 degrees here in Texas, we are all anxiously waiting for Fall to arrive.  It is time to put away our short shorts, flowy sundresses and strappy sandals and pull out our cozy sweaters, stylish pants and knee high boots.  With each season, trends and style change, but for a bohemian girl there will always be a few staples that will always be in style.

Shawls and capes not only keep you warm but can add an exciting and unexpected element to your outfit.  I absolutely love the color and the amazing fringe on this shawl.

I’m not sure what it is about a fur vest, but you can never go wrong with this look.  Whether you go for faux fur or the real thing, a fur vest or collar will always make a statement.

I love this bohemian fall fashion look. The jeans, top, jewelry, purse, hair, sunglasses, all amazing!

Just because the weather is cooler, doesn’t mean you can’t still wear one of your boho dresses or shirts from summer.  By adding some tights, an amazing cardigan or jacket and maybe a scarf or boots you are set through winter.  Of course, don’t forget a few key jewelry pieces to bring the outfit together.

Why God Made Little Boho Girls

God made the world with its towering trees,
majestic mountains and restless seas,
then paused and said, ‘It needs one more thing.’
Someone to laugh and dance and sing,
to walk in the woods and gather flowers,
to commune with nature in quiet hours.
So God made little girls
with laughing eyes and bouncing curls,
with joyful hearts, and beautiful smiles,
enchanting ways and feminine wiles.
And when He’d completed the task He’d begun,
he was pleased and proud of the job He’d done.
For the world when seen through a little girl’s eyes
greatly resembles paradise.

Bohemian Summer time awaits this weekend

Although August is infamously the hottest month here in Texas, it is also the month to say good bye to the summer time fun. I am going to celebrate this weekend by going to one of the lovely gulf shores with the family. As I wait out the week in hopes that the weekend will magically present itself more quickly than usual, I turn to my bohemian friends for inspiration.
This will be my sister in law Meagan and me! Except that in our case, the bottles will be half full of Asti champagne.  Champagne for my friends!!! Xoxo

For my porcelain, freckle face skin, I am going to need a large hat like this… and lots of sunscreen.. And I will of course, also need a teepee on the beach.. I think thats a given! right?!

As I sit here at my desk dreaming of the beach I will have to pass the time loading my IPod with great tunes and make my shopping list for the beach. So far my list consist of sunscreen, wine and champagne, cheese and crackers, bath suit, teepee, music, blankets, sunscreen…. is there anything else?!

Summer Time Flowers in her Hair

Flowers in her hair; Around the world women wear flowers in their hair. It is the oldest and most purest, natural adornment. With their scent and their fragile beauty, flowers can transform simple hair styles into adorable and even breathtaking creations. But they are not only beautiful, they also tell messages. The language of flowers goes back thousands of years. Each culture had its own meanings attached to the tender plants. In Europe the art of wearing flowers became very popular in the time of Queen Victoria, in the late 1800’s. Then each flower had a meaning expressed by the way it was held, given or put into a vase. Some decades later the flower children in the 1960s rediscovered flowers to show their connection to nature, as a symbol for love, innocence and divine beauty. Since then, hippies and bohemians have been introducing flowers and flower halos into their wardrobes.

Some meanings of flowers:
Daisy – innocence and purity
Gardenia – secret love
Camellia – gratitude
Ginger – strenght
Tuberose – forbidden pleasures
Hibiscus – delicate beauty, sensitivity
Red rose – passion, love
Pink rose – friendship, admiration, happiness
Apricot rose – desire, admiration, modesty
White rose – purity, secrecy, spiritual love
Jasmine – Sensuality
Yellow carnation – disappointment, rejection
Spider Flower – “run away with me”
Violet – modesty, faithfulness

Casual Friday!

Oh how I love Casual Friday’s at work!  I get to put the kakis and slacks away and show a little bit of my true flair. I’m pretty much the only girl where I work, so I already stick out like a sore thumb (Esp since I just dyed my hair bright red!!). But on casual Fridays I take that up a notch. I LOVE my hot pinks, torquises and printed tees!   I try to keep things toned down even on Friday’s because I work at a corporate office and there are engineers in business suits all week long (which I think those people don’t even own bold colors in clothing).

Since I have to keep it pretty tame at work I try to bring in some style with accessories. I love these pieces! These are from Anthropology and range $300-$400.
I’m thinking I could make a DIY version of something similar like this one.
If there were no creepster men staring at me and no dress code at work.. I would be dressing in these!!

Apart from footwear and clothes the most essential weapon of the Boho chic look is-accessories, get yourself a pair of over sized sunglasses, scarves, bandanas, “wide” leather belts, bangle bracelets [thick and wide ones], long golden, silver neck pieces, or chunky colorful junk jewellery . Don’t forget “hats or girlish caps”. Finally, you have created a Boho wardrobe.

Now the weekends, my dress code is another story.
